Jostaberries are nearly thorn-free and mildew resistant, and produce a sweet purple fruit high in vitamin C. They are a cross between a currant and a gooseberry. The first year of planting, remove all flowers to ensure good root growth. Grow in composted, well-drained soil and prune in the winter. Water deeply each week when the weather is dry. Two to three years to fruit.
